Homemade Skin Care
Skin care treatments at a spa can be very expensive. But these homemade skin care recipes use ingredients you already have in your home to give you fantastic results for a fraction of the cost of commercial products. Turn your home into your favorite spa! Salt or sugar scrub. You can make your own exfoliating scrub with olive oil and either sea salt or white sugar. Mix 1/4 cup of olive with 1/2 of sea salt or sugar. Rub gently on moist skin in a circular motion, then rinse with water. Milk or tea bath. To soften skin, add whole milk or buttermilk to a warm (not hot) bath. An alternative is to steep tea bags, preferably chamomile, green tea or black tea, in the bath water as you soak.
Oatmeal mask. Oatmeal is a wonderful ingredient for homemade skin care recipes. To create this soothing mask, mix one egg, a 1/2 cup of cooked instant oatmeal and one teaspoon of olive oil. Apply an even layer on your face and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with water. Herbal steam facial. Fill your sink with hot, steaming water and add aromatic herbs, such as lavender. Allow the herbs to steep for several seconds, then drape your head with a towel and lean your face over the fragrant steam. Steam 10-15 minutes, then rinse with water and moisturize. Milk and honey mask. Mix one tablespoon of milk, one tablespoon of honey and one teaspoon of flour to create a paste. Apply an even layer of the paste to your face and let sit for 10-15 minutes. Rinse with water. Citrus scrub To create a fresh-smelling gentle scrubber for dead skin, cut a fresh lemon in half and rub on your heels and elbows. Cucumber face cream. Cube 1/2 a cucumber and mix with 1 egg white, 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise and 1/2 cup of olive oil until creamy. Apply to face and wipe off with a soft cloth or tissue. Avocado mask. Mash 1/2 an avocado, then mix with 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 tablespoon of yogurt. Apply an even layer of the mixture to your face and next and let sit for 15 minutes. Rinse with water and pat dry. Cucumber eye slices. Cucumber has a natural astringent than can help reduce puffiness and reduce dark circles under the eyes. Just cut two thick slices of cucumber and put on your eyes for 15 minutes as you use a facial mask or soak in an herbal tub then rinse with water.
